The teaching methodology adopted by our Italian language school favours an integrated approach based on the direct method, with only Italian being spoken during lessons. Students are stimulated to use the language immediately, gradually working towards an understanding of the basic structures and grammar of Italian. This enables you to apply language patterns learnt, independently, in many different situations. During the language lessons, attention is focussed on students' individual needs and their different learning-styles. For this reason, there is a wide range of didactic activity used in class, e.g. individual -, pair- and group-work as well as diverse channels of communication.
LEVELS
The language courses are divided into five levels. After an entrance test, students are placed in the group best suited to their language needs and will move to the next level after passing a final test.
Beginners
This course is for students who have never had any contact with the Italian language. You are taught the basic ‘survival’ tools for addressing people: introducing yourself, talking about yourself, ordering food/drink at a bar or cafe’, shopping, asking for information etc.
Elementary
This course develops the communicative skills taught at beginner level, while enabling students to acquire a grammatical awareness of the language and a noticeably increased vocabulary. It also provides you with the essential grammatical and lexical tools for everyday social situations, for narrating past experiences and making predictions about the future.
Intermediate
The aim of this course is to perfect students’ ability to talk about past events and to enable them to express wishes and conditions. At the end of the course, you should be capable of formulating all kinds of hypotheses and expressing yourself adequately in a formal situation. You will also be presented with simple authentic texts or passages drawn from newspapers for presentation and discussion.
Advanced 1
The main objectives of this course are the acquisition of a good analytical knowledge of Italian grammar and the development of discussion skills through the use of complex texts and audio-visual media.
Advanced 2
The objectives are the same as those above, but the focus is more on learning to differentiate between styles and registers as well as on producing written work.
